Looks almost like a #toy One of the most expensive #boondoggles ever made. This is the second of the Zumwalt class of destroyers, which was originally projected to be 32 in number, but after numerous embarrassing failures and cost overruns was terminated after construction of the third boat, making the cost $7.5 billion per ship. The shape is a “stealth” design, for a low radar profile. Among the failures are The Advanced Gun System, which simply did not work, forcing the navy to “repurpose” the ship from its designed function, as a naval fire support for onshore conflicts, to surface warfare. The $20 million Rolls Royce engine on this boat had to be replaced due to problems with the turbines. The Zumwalt, first of the class, also has been plagued by expensive failures and had to be towed out of the Panama Canal after an engine died. #Coastline #OnTheEdge #TimeForChange
