This is that waste ash one of the Brandenburger power plants that surround the brown coal deposits in that region. In 2015, the facility was the 9th largest emitter of CO2 in the EU. It also releases into the environment, 114 kg of Arsenic, 256 kg of Mercury, 335 kg of Lead, 68 tons of Particulate matter (PM10). Coal ash is known to contain numerous toxins such as lead, mercury, arsenic, chromium, uranium, boron, and others. When mixed with water, these can percolate down to contaminate the water table below.
