Western Skies
My continuing series about preparedness for the climate crisis and the costs to society have compelled me to explore the increasing impacts on our communities and citizens.
Hurricanes and flooding have always been a fixation for me, but similarly, fires and their devastation is on the increase. I was struck by the capricious nature of the beast, burning one house but not the next.
Flying over the Pacific Palisades made one very sad for the lives destroyed, while the "Bear Gulch Fire" in Olympic National Forest made one sad for the environment lost. Both remind us of the folly of man.
California is a land of paradox.
There is simply not enough water, yet we continue to build.
And it is beautiful. Flying over the Santa Monica Mountains or a trip to Joshua Tree National Park drives that home.
