Baseball Field and Houses by Transfer Terminal for Petroleum Coke
Chicago, Illinois
Petroleum coke or pet coke is a toxic high carbon material that is produced as a by-product of the oil refining process. The nearby refinery specializes in processing crude from the Canadian Tar Sands which produces a high volume of the material. Though it is essentially a waste product, it has some uses as a fuel source or to make anodes for the refining of aluminum. This terminal is situated in a residential area and wind-blown dust from this facility is causing numerous health problems for nearby residents.
