Liquid natural gas compression and export terminal

Freeport, Texas

Natural gas is highly explosive. Compressing it to liquid generates heat which must be dissipated, a difficult process in the high heat and humidity of coastal Texas. An explosion in June 2022 disabled this facility, which exported about 2 billion cubic feet of LNG per day (about 15% of the USA total), most of which went to Europe, thus driving up the worldwide prices of liquid natural gas.
