Dr. Gail Rearden

Dr. Rearden's maternal family descended from freedom seeker Jack Wineglass, a participant in the Combahee River Raid who joined the Union Army and fought in the Civil War. Jack then returned to the Green Pond area where he was a community leader and political activist. He was one of the leaders of The Combahee River Rice Strike, a rebellion against the oppression of the sharecropper system in the south after The Civil War.
