Operations and oil spill at BP Deepwater Horizon spill

Gulf of Mexico, USA

The Drill Ship, surrounded by support vessels, is attempting to capture some portion of the oil gushing from the broken Macondo well 1 mile below the surface of the water. What it cannot capture drifts away with the current. Some of the natural gas and methane are burned with the flare, the rest is released in the environment. Methane especially is a tremendous climate change driver.

So Many Thanks to SouthWings for flight support!
